Editor comment: Although demantoids are found sparingly in parts of Africa and Central Asia, the stones from Russia are clearly the most valuable and large clean stones are extremely rare and difficult to obtain. This 2.60ct. GIA certified shield cut is completely clean except for the distinctive hair like inclusions known as "horsetails".

While inclusions affecting the clarity of most gemstones will normally bring down the price, this is not so in the case of "Horsetails" that occur only in Russian Demantoids. It is indeed the horsetails and how they are positioned within the stone, that can greatly increase or decrease the value of these stones.
