What is Tanzanite?

A variety of Zoisite, - Tanzanite is the ultimate prize of a gem safari, featuring a mesmerizing blend of rich purples and blues, with a velvety deepness of color unlike any other gem.

Discovered in 1967 beneath the sweeping grasslands in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania, Tanzanite gemstones are not found anywhere else on earth. Due to the fact that tanzanite is only found in one place in the world and is formed as the result of a rare geolocial phenomenon, most estimates are that there is enough Tanzanite in the ground to last for another 15 to 20 years.

Tanzanite is the first birthstone to be added to the chart since 1912 for the month of December, building upon the tradition for beautiful blue gemstones.
