Natural Dioptase

Among collectors and mineralogists, dioptase is known and prized for its’ intense emerald blueish-green colors and the well formed crystals in which it can occur. It crystallizes in the hexagonal system forming coarse sized prismatic crystals, crystalline or cryptocrystalline aggregates or in massive forms. With a hardness of 5 and perfect cleavage dioptase is too soft for effective use as a gemstone and is rarely faceted. It usually occurs in the oxidation zone of copper deposits.
