Natural Andradite
Andradite is a species of garnet which was named after M d’Andrada, a famous Portuguese mineralogist. Several varieties of andradite are found in nature and demantoid, the striking green variety is the most well known. Other varieties may be brown or greenish brown or yellowish green but clean large clean stones are always a rarity. The most famous deposit of andradite is of course the one in the Urals but this source seems to be nearly depleted. More recent deposits in Mexico, Korea, Namibia, and Iran have also been reported. |
